Welcome. This website is devoted to a selection of fine wine estates from Austria, whose wines are available in the United States through wine importer and distributor, Slocum and Sons, located in North Haven, Connecticut. This portfolio has been created by Eric Litchfield, the company's German and Austrian wine director, who has spent considerable time selecting producers that define today's highest standards of winemaking. Mr. Litchfield's philosophy is to allow the wine producer and nature harmonize equally, utilizing sustainable agriculture, organic and biodynamic farming to reach the purest expression of grape varietal, micro-climate and terroir, yielding wines of supreme balance and elegance.

It is the objective of this website to provide information on all aspects of these fine wine estates, with tasting notes, vintage reports and current news.

Tidbits of Information

Johann Reinisch

On 28 May 2009 Johann Reinisch, patriarch of the famed Thermenregion wine estate, Johanneshof Reinisch, died tragically in a tractor accident while tending his vineyards. Thanks to Johann's tenacious farming and winemaking practices, the Thermenregion has now become one of Austria's most important wine districts with outstanding quality of both red and white wines.

Hans was a winemaker and devoted family man, being husband, grandfather, father and son, and to many if not all, a true friend. A man of unsurpassed love for life, Hans knew the beauty of all things, and his passion was contagious to all who knew him. Hans was a gift of nature and nature was a gift to him.

In every glass of Rotgipfler where there glistens a faint sparkle of light, it is in remembrance of you, Johann, whose shining radiance will always be upon us.
